The Tiny Things

By Sharon Arendshorst –

God led Maggie Hollis to My House Ministries, a ministry in the neighborhood that provides safe, affordable, Christ-centered housing for women and children transitioning to independent living. Maggie is a woman of prayer whose heart aches for those who are struggling.

Maggie first learned of My House Ministry when the director came to Maggie’s church to invite people to come to an open house to see the ministry’s second home. My House was looking for a house manager to live in the newly remodeled home and to oversee both houses.  Maggie wasn’t interested in the position, but through the prayers and encouragement of several neighborhood pastors she was at least willing to apply.

After several interviews, Maggie was offered the position. She was reluctant to accept because the house had only one bathroom. Maggie couldn’t imagine living in a place with only one bathroom when the house was fully occupied with women and children.

First she prayed if God wanted her to take the position and then she asked God to provide a second bathroom. The ministry didn’t have the financial resources to do the additional remodeling.

Maggie took a step of faith and said yes, trusting that God would provide. After Maggie accepted the position, another church in the neighborhood unexpectedly sent volunteers to build a second bathroom. Permits, donations, and volunteers all fell into place.

Maggie loves living in My House.  She says, “Everything I need comes from the Lord. God cares about even the tiny things”—like bathrooms.
